Denver woman killed in midair plane collision at Fort Morgan Airport

UPDATE - Authorities have identified the pilot killed in a midair collision involving two small planes at the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport on Sunday morning.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said Kristen (Connell) Morris, 35, of Denver, died when the Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 she was flying in collided with a Cessna 172 near the north end of the runway.
Both planes had two people aboard. The two occupants of the Cessna sustained minor injuries and were released at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. A second person on the EA300 was transported to a hospital, while Morris was pronounced dead at the crash site.
Both aircraft caught fire after the collision.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Fort Morgan, a city of about 12,000 people, is located roughly 80 miles northeast of Denver.

FORT MORGAN, Colo. — One person was killed and three others injured after two small planes collided mid-air and crashed at the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport late Sunday morning.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a report of the crash at approximately 10:44 a.m. Investigators determined a small Cessna was on final approach to the airport when it was struck mid-air by a second plane. Both aircraft crashed and caught fire.
According to officials, two people in the Cessna sustained minor injuries and were treated and released at the scene. One of the two occupants in the second plane was transported to a local hospital, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation, and the names of those involved are not being released at this time.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been contacted and will assist with the investigation.
Authorities expressed condolences to the victim’s family and thanked both first responders and citizens who attempted to extinguish the fire before crews arrived. Multiple agencies, including Fort Morgan Police, the Colorado State Patrol, the Fort Morgan Fire Department and Morgan County Ambulance, responded to the scene.
