SIDNEY -- Cheyenne County Treasurer Shelley Bowlin announced her retirement today.

The announcement was made during the Cheyenne County Commissioners meeting.

"I plan on retiring, the end of this year. I turned my resignation in, and I'm going to miss you guys, and everybody at the courthouse and here. and a lot ... I'll say taxpayers. We got a good group in Cheyenne County." I'm leaving you with an excellent staff. They are dependent. They are hard-working. I can't say enough about my staff," Bowlin said.

The commissioners commended her on her career in the Treasurer's Office.

"You've done a great job. You've worked more hours than I'd like to see," said Commissioner Randy Miller.

He retirement closes a career that spans nearly 40 years. She said working among the public is something she misses the most.

"Cheyenne County has some really good people in it. That's probably one of the things I miss the most because becoming Treasurer I don't get to get out there as much and deal with the public," Bowlin said.

She started in the Treasurer's Office part-time in 1985 and has remained there since. She grew from part-time clerk to deputy, then to Treasurer. She said it's time to spend time with her husband at home.

Bowlin was raised on a farm/ranch northwest of Crook, Colo. Prior to coming to the Treasurer's Office they had K & K Furniture.

She said when she retires she plans to get in their side-by-side and "find some mud!"
