WAYNE - #7 Wayne State used 16 kills from senior outside hitter Brooklyn Kusler and a season-high .482 hitting percentage to defeat Peru State in non-conference volleyball Tuesday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  Scores of the match were 25-11, 25-17 and 25-8.  WSC is now 17-3 overall while the match was an exhibition contest for the 11-16 Bobcats.


The Wildcats never trailed in the opening set, jumping out to a 10-3 lead, to finish the set with a 25-11 win.


Kusler had six kills and one service ace followed by sophomore Channatee Robles with five kills to lead the 'Cats, who posted a .552 hitting percentage in the opening set with 18 kills.


Peru State battled the 'Cats for much of the second set with 11 ties and five lead changes before WSC closed with a 25-17 set win.


Beller had eight kills on nine attacks to lead WSC in the set to go with an ace and two blocks. 


The third set saw 12 different Wildcats see the court with six players recording kills as WSC ended the match with a 25-8 victory for the sweep.


Kusler had seven kills on 10 attacks for the 'Cats.  Freshman middle hitter Chloe Hanel had two kills and four blocks in the third set while Robles finished with two kills and two service aces.

For the match, Wayne State produced a season-best .482 hitting percentage on 47 kills with just six errors and 85 attacks.  Peru State hit .100 with 24 kills, 16 errors and 80 attacks.  WSC held a 35-28 edge in digs, 10-2 in blocks and 7-2 in service aces over the Bobcats.

Kusler's 16 kills powered Wayne State in the win with Beller adding 11.  Senior libero Brooke Peltz had 13 digs with Robles adding six.  Hanel had a team-high four blocks while Robles finished with four service aces.  Setter Molly Romano handed out 37 set assists in the win.


The Wildcats will be at home again Thursday evening hosting #12 Southwest Minnesota State in a 6 p.m. game at Rice Auditorium.
