KIMBALL -- On March 30, Nicholas King of Kimball was arrested for the second time this year.

King had a warrant out for his arrest due to failure to pay a fine for a citation of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Kimball County Sheriff David Hottell said if someone does not pay their citation fine or misses their court date, the police issue an arrest warrant for the individual. If the suspect is not able to pay their bond, one option is sitting it out in jail until the fine is paid off, which is the route King chose.

“You get a rate of $6.25 per hour in jail until the total of the fine is completed,” Hottell said. “[King] sat in jail for 66 hours.

This arrest came after his first one in February following a 12-hour standoff with the police, in which King had himself barricaded in his home. He surrendered to the sheriff the next morning.

King has been charged with terroristic threat, assault in the 3rd degree, and obstructing a government operation. His next court date is May 7.

Kimball police say suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
