Wahoo outlasts Auburn in overtime to win Class C1 championship
LINCOLN, Neb. – In a thriller of a game that went back and forth throughout the contest, the Wahoo Warriors erased a seven-point 4th quarter deficit against Auburn to win in overtime 49-42.
In the first quarter Wahoo outscored Auburn 15-3, but Auburn flipped the script in the second quarter to tie at 18 at halftime.
Auburn came out hot in the third quarter and led 33-26 going into the fourth quarter, but Wahoo came back late to force overtime at 39-39.
Wahoo Senior Marcus Glock opened OT with 2 of his game-high 23 points to give Wahoo the lead for good as they won their first state championship since 2018.
"It's somethings you dream of as a kid," said Glock. "It took me four hard years to get it, but it's the best way to go out."
"We've talked about it since I was really little," said Wahoo Junior Dylan Simons. "It just meant a ton to finally get it done after all these years of thinking about it."
"We got down seven, and things were not looking good at all," said Wahoo Head Coach Kevin Scheef. "They're a resilient bunch, we didn't put our head down, we didn't start feeling bad for ourselves, we just kept plugging away and got back in it. This is a special group, it's been a really amazing year."
