ALBION - Less than 24 hours after a road loss to O'Neill, the Boone Central Cardinals bounce back in the best way possible - with a tight conference win in front of a home crowd.

Saturday afternoons battle marked the first time since 2021 that Boone Central beat Wayne and they did it thanks to their defense, forcing the Blue Devils into turnovers and mistakes.

The first quarter was tight, as Wayne jumped out to a narrow 9-8 lead, but the Cardinals burst back onto the scene in the second quarter.

Boone Central only allowed 3 points from Wayne in the second, while managing 11 points offensively.

Wayne trailed by 8-points in the third quarter, but continued to feed Gabbi Judd the ball who helped the Blue Devils close the gap and tie the game at 24 points each heading into the fourth quarter.

Wayne went up by 4 early in the fourth, but Boone Central found their way back in the game and stopped Wayne from scoring any more points.

Boone Central hit a few big free throws to clinch the win, 35-28.

Freshman Addy Hedlund finished with 15 points, followed by Sienna Borer with 11.

Wayne's Gabbi Judd led the way with 10 points. Frantzdie Barner tacked on 6 points as well.

Boone Central moves to 6-6 on the season, while Wayne drops another close contest and falls to 5-10.
