WYNOT - A night of wild weather was surpassed by an even wilder game in Wynot on Friday.

With rain falling and winds gusting out of the north over 30 miles per hour, Class D2 #2 Wynot held off #10 Bloomfield 36-30 in the regular-season finale, clinching a district title in the process.

The wet weather conditions forced the Blue Devils to rely on their ground attack more than usual, especially from senior quarterback Dylan Heine. Heine had carried the ball just 36 times all season prior to Friday, but ran the ball 22 times on Friday alone, for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

The adjustment was good enough to keep Wynot at arm's length until the fourth quarter, when Bloomfield senior sensation Wiley Ziegler's miraculous 46-yd touchdown run - a play in which he appeared to break a tackle from all eight of the Blue Devil defenders - gave the Bees their first lead with 2:02 to go.

But Wynot responded, with a last-minute drive capped off by a touchdown pass from Heine to Chase Schroeder that proved to be the difference.

The win was Wynot's third against a team currently ranked in the Class D2 top 10, while both of Bloomfield's losses have come to unbeaten teams.
