#1 Boone Central outlasts #4 Pierce to stay unbeaten

PIERCE - The weather was not the friend of football fans on Friday night in Pierce but neither the Bluejays nor the Cardinals let it hold back the fireworks.
Boone Central traveled to Pierce with a 7-0 record and the number one overall ranking in Class C1, while Pierce held a 6-1 record, ranked 4th in all of class C1.
The Bluejays were also in control of a 33-game home winning streak that dated back to 2017.
Boone Central and Pierce traded possessions to open up the contest, but it was the legs of quarterback James Fogleman for Boone Central that got things going for the Cardinal offense.
Fogleman had great blocking from the offensive line and cut through a gap for a 23-yard touchdown, Boone Central leading 7-0.
Int he second quarter, Parker Borer began to get going for Boone Central, scoring a 17-yard touchdown. After the botched PAT, the #1 Cardinals led the #4 Bluejays into the half.
Pierce took the ball to begin the second half. Keenan Valverde and Champion White did an excellent job finding space to run. The drive was capitalized by a touchdown through the air, with White finding Valverde for 16-yard score.
Boone Central drove down once again as Parker Borer found the end zone for the second time. The Cardinals did not get the two-point try and led 19-7.
Pierce had another opportunity to score late in the third quarter, but the stifling Boone Central defense stopped the Bluejays on 4th and goal from the 5.
Boone Central went three and out to open up the fourth quarter and attempted to punt the ball out of their own end zone, but Pierce's Deon White blocked the punt and gave the ball back to the Bluejays in the red zone.
Pierce capitalized on the short field and Kennan Valverde scored from a yard out to make it a 19-14 game.
The Bluejays forced the Cardinals into another three and out, but Austin Wiese pinned Pierce inside their own three-yard line.
The Bluejays couldn't escape the shadow of their goalposts and had to give the ball back to Boone Central with only a few minutes remaining.
The Cardinals slowly burned the time off the clock and scored one more touchdown to ice the game with under two minutes left.
James Fogleman ran for 147 yards in the game and two touchdowns, nearly matching his rushing output on the season in just one game. Parker Borer also ran for 100 yards and two scores.
Keenan Valerde had 56 rushing yards for Pierce and hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Champion White, who also ran for 50 yards.
#1 Boone Central stays red hot and moves to 8-0 after the 26-14 victory over #4 Pierce. The Bluejays fall to 6-2 and have a 6-game winning streak broken, as well as their 33-game home winning streak.
