LINCOLN, Neb. — Few things are as certain as Wynot reaching the girls state basketball semifinals.

For the 13th time in 15 state tournament appearances, the Blue Devils have advanced to the second round, doing so with a 53-44 win over St. Mary’s on Thursday in the Bob Devaney Center.

Wynot has now reached the semifinal round in 12 of the past 13 years, with last year as the lone exception in that time. The Blue Devils will aim to reach the championship round for the first time since their 2020 title.

Senior Amber Lawson scored a game-high 24, including 16 in the second half, to lead Wynot. She scored eight points in the decisive fourth quarter. Junior Myrah Sudbeck, who came into the game averaging 5.1 points, knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 16 points.

Junior Mya Hedstrom scored 12 points to lead three Cardinals in double figures.

Wynot will play Shelton in the semifinals on Friday.
