SIDNEY -- The City of Sidney was recently awarded a $300,000 Safe Streets Planning Grant.

The announcement was made by Jason Nelke of Keep Sidney Beautiful (KSB). Nelke contracted with the City of Sidney to seek and write grants for city projects.

The grant was announced on Feb. 1, 2023..

The SS4A Action Safety Plan Grant will provide the funding that allows Sidney to study, analyze, and create a plan for the entire town to improve our sidewalks, create complete streets with bike lanes and safer crossings, reduce downtown traffic, and improve alternate transportation options.

Once this 'Safety Action Plan' is completed and submitted to the DOT, this will open up the City of Sidney to additional funding opportunities to follow through and enact the safety plan and the various construction projects that go along with it.

Nelke thanked the City, the city council members, Mayor Roger Galloway, Nebraska Department of Transportation, the Sidney Parks Department, Streets Department, Cheyenne County Tourism, and the South Platte Natural Resource District for all being a part of this.

"We wouldn't have been awarded this grant without it being an entire community effort, so again, thank you all so much," Nelke said in a press release.
