Whitmore, Kasik power Clarkson/Leigh boys past Pender
PENDER, Neb. -- Mason Whitmore scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter, and Kyle Kasik chipped in with 17 in Clarkson/Leigh's dominant 62-37 boys' basketball win over Pender.
The Patriots jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back.
Pender began to find its offensive stride in the middle quarters, making four three-pointers in the second and third periods as the Pendragons were forced to counter a ferocious Clarkson/Leigh defense that limited Pender paint touches.
Nine different players for each team scored in the game, with Whitmore and Kasik pacing all scorers. Alex Roth led Pender with 12 points.
The Patriots are now 10-3 after having won each of their past six games. Clarkson/Leigh will aim to make it seven straight wins when they host Lutheran High Northeast on Tuesday.
The Pendragons are now 3-11 on the season. Pender will seek to get back on the winning track with a Tuesday game at Class D-1 No. 1 Wynot.
