UST Global made an agreement with the City of Sidney in August 2018 that includes the creation of new jobs in the community, and a lease agreement for the building at 812 13th Ave.

UST Global learned, as many businesses, that much of their work can be done remotely. At this time, many of the 85 employees work from home, and the corner building is no longer needed.

UST Global originally signed an eight-year agreement for LB840 funds. The job creation agreement required UST Global to add new jobs in the Sidney area and be awarded up to $500,000 in exchange for 200 new employees hired over an eight-year period. UST Global received its first payment of $40,000 in 2019 and hasn't qualified since.

Sidney City Manager David Scott said in the Dec. 13 meeting that with much of the local UST Global staff working remotely, the company does not need a large building. Additionally, the rent UST Global pays to the City covers taxes and insurance through December; any pro-rated amount would be "very small."

Scott said he is aware of at least one local company interested in the property.
