Banner County added to the list of counties closing roads; Morgan County, Colo., announces I-76 closed again  to Nebraska State Line.

PANHANDLE, Neb. -- Progress made by state and county road crews Thursday have all but disappeared as high winds are moving snow and closing roads again.

Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs released a statement earlier this morning (Friday, Dec. 16) that roads are again closed in the county. 

"Any progress digging out yesterday was quickly erased by the winds," he said in the statement.

Frerichs said it looks promising that the winds will cease this afternoon.

Banner County Sheriff-elect Zane Hopkins said today all county roads, paved and gravel surface, are officially closed until further notice.

The exception is Interstate 80, opened December 15 initially eastbound before gradually opening westbound traffic. I-80 traffic was then slowed in reaction to an accident that occurred near Chappell.

U.S. Highway 385 remains closed from Chadron to Sidney because of blowing snow.

Sheridan and Hooker counties are in a blizzard warning until at least 12 p.m. today. The blizzard warning was issue 4:29 a.m. CST December 15 by the National Weather Service in North Platte.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reports high winds continue to impact the northeast plains into Nebraska.

The Logan County (Colorado) Sheriff's Office released a statement at about 9 a.m. Friday that due to wind conditions, most county roads and state highways are still closed.
