LINCOLN, NE — For the first time in nearly a century, the Irish from North Platte St. Pat's are boys basketball champions.

The Irish defeated the Loomis Wolves 65-57 Friday morning at Pinnacle Bank Arena. After just putting up six points in the first quarter, North Platte St. Pat's exploded for 19 in the second quarter, taking the lead and never giving it back.

Up 25-20 at the break, the Irish started the second half on a 13-3 run, taking a 15-point advantage at 38-23. A Loomis run cut it to six but the Irish battled back to hold the Wolves at bay.

Brecken Erickson led the Irish to victory with a double double, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds. NPSP's other big man Caleb Munson had 12 while senior Jack Heiss closed out his career with 14 points in a championship game.

The Wolves were led by the 20 points of senior Quinn Johnson while fellow senior Shay Swanson had 18 for Loomis.
