STANTON - The hometown Mustang teams each used big second halves to pull away from Osmond and sweep the Tigers Friday night. The Stanton girls dominated the 1st quarter, but were shut out in the 2nd, giving the Lady Tigers an 11-10 halftime lead. But the Lady Mustangs took charge in the 3rd and held off a late rush by Osmond to win 38-33. Olivia Cunningham led all Stanton scorers with 9, while Kiera Moes of Osmond topped all with 15 in a losing cause.
The boys' matchup played out in similar fashion, as Stanton jumped out to an early 9-point advantage, but Osmond closed the gap at the break, with Stevin Hasler hitting a hookshot right before the halftime buzzer to cut the Mustang lead to 30-28. From there it was all Stanton, as they outscored the Tigers 19-5 in the 3rd, en route to a 66-48 victory. Owen Vogel paced the Mustangs with 15 points, and Osmond's Ryan Schmit matched that total, including 4 three-pointers.
Osmond (7-7 girls, 4-9 boys) is back home against Bloomfield on Tuesday, while Stanton (6-8 girls, 7-7 boys) are on the road that night at Madison.
