SIDNEY - Mother nature will remind us that it can still get cold around the Sidney area.

According to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne, Sunday night will be the coldest night of the season so far. Lows are forecast to drop into the teens to isolated single digits by early Monday morning. Wind chills could be down to near zero or briefly negative.

High temperatures to start the week will only be in the lower 30s.

Elevated winds will increase across the Nebraska Panhandle Sunday morning, and persist into the afternoon, to help usher in the cold front.

The weather service says sustained winds out of the northwest at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of 45 to 55 mph, will be likely from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.

"Overall impacts will be low, but any light weight and high profile vehicles may have difficulty driving in these conditions," the NWS said. "In addition, to elevated winds, isolated light snow showers will also be possible this afternoon and early evening. Little to no accumulation is expected. Winds will decrease after sunset."

Winds speeds of 60 mph were reported two miles west of Gering overnight Saturday. Warren Air Force Base received winds of 65-69 mph and four miles west of Laramie recorded winds speeds of 63 mph.
