PALMYRA - Winter sports are getting underway and that means it’s wrestling season in southeast Nebraska.
On Thursday, Palmyra hosted one of the first dual meets of the season with a handful of schools participating. One of those schools is James Bates’ Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines.
“It’s great to be back in season,” Bates said. “We wait all year for wrestling season, we train in the summer, we train in the fall, so when wrestling season finally rolls around we’re excited and we’re ready for it.”
While the Wolverines faced a number of Class-C and D schools to open the year, they’ll soon get a good measuring stick of their abilities.
“For the most part, our kids are pretty young so this is a good place to start,” Bates said. “We’ll find out more about where we are when we go to Crete next week and we wrestle a lot of Class-A and Class-B schools.”
