FORT MORGAN - A minor traffic violation in Fort Morgan resulted in the arrest of two people from Sterling on Nov. 20.

The Fort Morgan Police Department says Sgt. Jared Lungerich pulled over a vehicle for failing to signal and expired tags on the 600 block of Sherman Street at approximately 4:39 p.m.

When the officer approached the vehicle he noticed an open bottle of alcohol and found the driver, Thomas Thompson, 24, was prohibited from having alcohol or drugs due to a protection order. He was out on bond in four different cases in Logan County.

The passenger of the vehicle, Amber Makinster, 37, was also prohibited from alcohol and drugs and had a prior felony conviction.

Officers located a weapon, marijuana and other paraphernalia while searching the vehicle.

Both Thompson and Makinster were arrested and the vehicle, which was also uninsured, was impounded.

Thompson was released on a $3,000 bond and charged with violation of bail, violation of a protection order, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper use of a turn signal.

Makinster was released on a $1,000 bond and charged with weapon by a previous offender and violation of bail bond conditions.
