NDOT gets public input on Loup River Bridge in Columbus
The Nebraska Department of Transportation held a public meeting in Columbus on Tuesday evening to discuss plans to renovate the north side of the Loup River Bridge and also upgrade the southbound side as well.
The District Engineer for the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Kevin Domogalla, said the department wanted feedback from the public who attended the meeting on how to renovate the historic bridge.
"So, what we're looking at is to get feedback from the public on what our plans are. Also, as it is a historic bridge, we want to get some feedback from the public on different mitigation ideas that we have," said Domogalla.
There have been questions in the past about the bridge possibly needing to be replaced since the city started construction on it in 1932 and completed the bridge in 1933.
Domogalla also told News Channel Nebraska that the preliminary preferred alternative is to replace the bridge on alignment.
