WEST POINT, Neb. -- One person was life-flighted after a crash on Highway 275 northeast of West Point on Tuesday.

The Cuming County Sheriff's Office says an eastbound Ford Escape stopped to turn into a field when a semi-trailer came up behind the SUV and could not stop in time, so it headed for the shoulder.

Sheriff Brad Boyum says that the SUV, seeing the semi-trailer would be unable to stop in time, did the same as the semi and drove toward the shoulder, causing the two to collide.

The SUV driver was transported by West Point Rescue to St. Francis Memorial Hospital, then later flown to a hospital in Omaha. No additional injuries were reported.

The Cuming County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident, with the help of the Nebraska State Patrol, the Cuming County Emergency Manager, and the West Point Fire and Rescue.
