Nebraska All-stars, made up of former WNCC players, fall to Northwest College

The Nebraska All-stars came together Tuesday night to take on Northwest College in a contest at Cougar Palace and the many former Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball players that made up the all-star team had a tough time shooting in falling to the Trappers 88-49.
The Nebraska All-stars were led in scoring by Trent Harris, who went on to play at the University of Northern Colorado after his two years at WNCC. Harris finished with 29 points including five 3-pointers.
The Nebraska All-stars finished with eight treys all together on the night. Austin Hoffman had one trey and Marlon Sierra had two treys. Both Hoffman and Sierra played for the Cougars when they won the Region IX title in 2018.
WNCC started strong, leading 5-2 after a Harris trey. The Trappers got hot in scoring the next 18 points for a 20-5 lead and led 28-6 and then 41-10 in the first half. Northwest led 54-22 at halftime.
The second half was a little better for the Cougars as they cut the Trapper lead to 66-35 on a Hoffman trey. Northwest then exploded for 12 straight to lead 78-35 on their way to the 88-49 win.
Harris led the Nebraska All-stars with 29 points followed by Sierra with eight points. Trey Mosby had four for the All-stars while Hoffman had three.
The Nebraska All-stars shot just 20 percent in the first half and 29 percent for the game. Northwest, on the other hand, shot 53 percent in the first half and was 59 percent for the game. The Trappers buried 10 treys and made 12 of 20 free throws. The All-stars were just 3 of 8 from the charity stripe and 8 of 38 from beyond the arc.
In the women’s game on Tuesday, Northeastern Junior College held a 19-11 lead after one quarter and led from start to finish in topping Northwest College 68-52.
