LPD investigates 2 car fires in southeast Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Police respond to two car arson calls Monday morning in Lincoln. 

Lincoln Police say the were called to the 6200 block of Blackstone Road at 6:00 a.m. for a car fire. 

Authorities say the victim was a 71-year-old man who reported that his neighbor had told him his white 2009 Chevy van was on fire. The man found doors open to his vehicle and a bucket inside that was on fire. 

Officials say that another victim, a 37-year-old man in the 6400 block of Blackstone Road reported that around 7:00 a.m., found his white 1999 Ford F-150 interior damaged from a fire that had already extinguished on its own. 

Authorities say that Fire Inspector Schmidt determined that both fires were arson and officers assisted with their investigation. 

Officials say the van sustained an estimated $800 in damages and the truck had around $3,000. 

This is an ongoing investigation.
