BEATRICE – The Homestead National Historical Park has been named the Beatrice Public Schools Business Friend of the Month for November.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jackie Nielsen presented the award to Jesse Bolli of the Homestead before the District 15 Board of Education Monday night.

The Homestead has been a source of learning over many years for district students about the Homestead Act of 1862….and has provided science education on the park’s grounds.

Nielsen said, "The Homestead allows eighth grade students to learn about water as they put on their boots and pants and head to the river. Our government students have visited the Homestead and participated in the Naturalization ceremonies. The after school program has been provided opportunities to expand their STEM understanding while on the prairie. All of these opportunities have provided our students with hands-on opportunities to support the standards and curriculum."

Homestead Park Rangers have also assisted with specific programs for afterschool offerings and writing workshops on Nebraska authors. Nielsen said the national park helps students “connect the dots” to their heritage in Beatrice.

Also honored Monday night were Beatrice School District employees of the month, for both October and November.
