North Beatrice traffic stop nets drug, warrant arrests
BEATRICE – Two suspects were arrested on possible drug violations Sunday, when Beatrice Police conducted a traffic stop during the afternoon just before three o’clock.
An officer observed a northbound car in the 25-hundred block of North 6th recognizing the driver from past law enforcement contacts, and had knowledge of a female with pending warrants known to travel in that vehicle.
The officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it turned into a store parking lot, but it then exited the lot and re-entered northbound traffic on U.S. 77. The officer pulled the driver over near a cemetery.
A search conducted of the interior of the vehicle located a glass pipe with suspected burnt methamphetamine residue, along with a small bag containing a substance that field tested positive, as methamphetamine. Tucked into the side of the passenger seat of the vehicle, police said, was a blue waist pack containing a smoking pipe, five hypodermic needles, and a Ziploc bag of suspected synthetic marijuana.
Police arrested the driver, 30-year-old James Rivers III, on suspicion of drug and drug paraphernalia possession. Also arrested was 24-year-old Payton Bishop on drug and drug paraphernalia possession. There were also confirmed warrants for Bishop’s arrest from Gage and Lancaster Counties.
