COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A Wood River man is back in jail after escaping from the Platte County Detention Facility Sunday evening.

Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says 29-year-old Jacob McDermott fled from the Columbus Facility on foot at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday.

Sheriff Wemhoff says about ten minutes later, a resident just west of the jail reported that their car had been stolen.

That car was found about an hour later being driven by McDermott, headed westbound on Highway 30 near Clarks.

Authorities in Merrick County say McDermott left the vehicle in a ditch along a county road and fled on foot.

After about a two-hour manhunt using multiple enforcement agencies, three drones and the K-9 units, McDermott was arrested and taken back to Columbus.

He now faces felony escape charges.
