FAIRBURY, NE — A Jefferson County jury has started deliberating in the child abuse resulting in death trial of Jake Gonzalez.
Jefferson County District Court Judge Vicky Johnson submitted the instructions to the jury at 12:46 PM and sent them to a room in the courthouse for deliberation. If the jury is still deliberating at 8:00 PM, they will be instructed to pause and resume deliberations at 9:00 AM tomorrow.
Gonzalez is accused of fatally injuring two-year-old Hollen Siedschlag in February. The 19-year-old Fairbury resident is also charged with making terroristic threats to Hollen’s mother, Baily Siedschlag.
If convicted of child abuse resulting in death, he could face up to life in prison.
