City of Hastings holds inaugural ‘Scarecrow Walk’
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Scarecrows are lining the sidewalk in Libs Park through much of October, and the decorated figures have been constructed by local businesses, organizations, and others in the community for the inaugural ‘Scarecrow Walk.’
Fourteen scarecrows were placed along the Pioneer Spirit Trail and will stay put until October 25th.
Tatum Bartels, the City of Hastings recreation coordinator, said they were surprised by how many participants they had during their first year of the event.
Businesses, organizations, and others were able to pay $45 to participate in the event.
Proceeds from the participants went toward buying items to create posts for the scarecrows and lights. The remaining money from the participants would go back into the city.
There is also a judging contest for the best creation. People are able to visit the park in person to search for their favorite scarecrows or view an album on the Hastings Parks and Recreation Facebook page and place a vote for their favorite.
