PLATTEVIEW- In the Class B District 1 cross country meet last week, Nebraska City high school sent a team to state for the first time since 1991. 

The Pioneers team consisted of Mason Houghton, Alex Rico, Hayden Beccard, Sabir Musa, Sage Mclaren, and Jeremy Polanco. Nebraska City needed to finish in the top three scoring for teams to get a qualified spot in state, and they did just that. Nebraska City placed second, sandwiched in between Skutt and Plattsmouth as state qualifiers. 

Skutt Catholic finished with 10 team points, followed by Nebraska City with 49 and Plattsmouth with 53. 

Skutt Catholic claimed the first six finishing times in the boys 5K run. Nebraska City's Mason Houghton placed 8th with a time of 17:27. Alex Rico rounded out the top ten in tenth with a time of 17:34. 

Plattsmouth's Elijah Dix and Sam Campin were the first to cross the finish line for the Blue Devils with times of 17:31 and 17:50. 

Nebraska City placed ahead of Plattsmouth for the first time in 2021. 

Both Nebraska City and Plattsmouth will compete at the state meet at the Kearney Country Club on Friday, Oct. 22nd
