A probation officer from Kimball is no longer serving in her role after pleading guilty to a charge of official misconduct.

According to court records, 28-year-old Taylor Schmid was given her sentence Monday.

The complaint filed against her in Cheyenne County court in July 2021 says Schmid engaged in a sexual relationship with a probationer while acting as that person's probation officer from July to September of 2020.

She pleaded guilty to the charge in August.

The Western Nebraska Observer reported Schmid signed up to join the Kimball Police Department (KPD) in March after leaving the probation office. She then started a 16-week training program at the police academy in May.

Schmid was reportedly removed from the academy when the KPD found out about the charge against her.
