Laughter and love.

That was the feeling Tuesday in Wisner, as Veretta Koehler celebrated her 101st birthday at the Wisner Community Senior Center.

Close friends and other members of the center came out to honor Koehler's remarkable life.

News Channel Nebraska got the chance to talk with Koehler about her secret.

"Everything in moderation. Except chocolate, " Koehler said as she giggled.

In addition to that, Koehler also continues to keep in shape even at her age.

"I've done a lot of exercises all my life and I'm still doing it," added Koehler.

She was actually the first president of the Wisner Community Senior Center back in the 1980s. The first manager, Mary Lou Beeson, was also in attendance and thinks Koehler's life is remarkable.

"Well, she's an inspiration to all of us. She's 101 but like I said, she can do all those exercises better than the rest of us. She is an inspiration," says Beeson.

Koehler's first job was teaching at the age of 17 and remarkably one of the students she taught, 88-year-old, Vernon Schultz, attended the party and got a picture with his old teacher.
