AURORA - The Sidney Lady Raider volleyball team went 0-3 at the Aurora Invitational Volleyball Tournament over the weekend. The eight-team bracketed tournament, which featured five top-10 ranked teams, was played on Saturday at Aurora High School. Teams were seeded into the bracket based on their wildcard average.

Sidney, the 6th seed in the bracket, opened the tournament at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning against Class B, number 3 ranked Waverly. The Lady Raiders lost their first match in straight sets 25-13, 25-18.

Sidney turned right around at 11:30 a.m. with a consolation bracket game against Class B number 8 Aurora. The Huskies lost to Class C1 number 4 Columbus Lakeview in straight sets in their first round game to fall into the consolation bracket. Sidney began the match with a 25-19 first set win, but lost the next two sets, 25-17, 25-21.

In Sidney’s third game of the day, the Lady Raiders ran into Crete in the 7th place game. The Cardinals lost their first-round game to C1 number 2, and eventual tournament champion Kearney Catholic 25-13, 25-18. Then fell to Lincoln Christian in the consolation semifinals 25-18, 25-22. Crete handed Sidney their third loss of the day 25-20, 25-22.

Sidney, who is now 6-10 on the season, is back on the court Tuesday night when they travel to Scottsbluff for a date with the Bearcats. Sidney will return to Scottsbluff Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Twin Cities Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
