WAYNE -- The first-ever Northeast Nebraska Muscle Walk, Run, Bike happening this Sunday, September 26.
"Think about the things you are able to do rather than things you aren't able to," Jorgensen said.
Zach Jorgensen, 24, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, "Which means that I gradually lose strength over time," Jorgensen said.
He notes some misconceptions he wishes people would avoid include talking to him like a child or talking to his assistant instead of him.
Jorgensen has written three books -- inspiring others to overcome their challenges. One, about a superhero in a wheelchair, is getting a sequel in five months.
Retired teacher Ron Carnes met Jorgensen at Wayne State College, and soon felt inspired to share Jorgensen's positivity.
"He's very outgoing and there's a warmth about him that you feel like you've known him forever," Carns said. Carnes recruited student volunteers to set up a fundraiser for September 26. Participants can walk a mile, run 3 miles, or bike 6 miles for a small price of ten dollars going toward the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
They've already raised about $12,000 and are hoping to raise even more. You can help out by signing up online or showing up day of at the Wayne Fire Department, 3 p.m.
