Traffic stop leads to discovery of stolen car in Sidney
SIDNEY, NE — An Ohio man is facing a felony charge after being pulled over in Sidney.
Court documents say Andrew Smith of Columbus, Ohio faces a charge of theft by unlawful taking over $5,000, a Class 2A felony.
According to the arrest affidavit, police pulled Smith over for speeding on Old Post Road in Sidney on September 5. Police say Smith did not have his license, but was able to give his driver's license number to authorities to confirm his identity.
When police ran the information, they were notified Smith's license was suspended and he had two non-extradition warrants from Ohio.
According to court documents, police then ran the vin number of the car Smith was driving, which had been reported stolen from Ohio.
Smith was lodged in Cheyenne County Jail.
