NDCS inmate dies at hospital, cause not determined

LINCOLN, Neb. -- An inmate in his 30s died at a hospital in Lincoln Saturday morning.
According to the Director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Service (NDCS) Scott Frakes, the inmate tested positive for COVID-19 before being hospitalized. The inmate had other medical conditions along with COVID.
Authorities say that for the privacy of the family as well as maintaining the confidentiality of the man's medical records in accordance with state law, NDCS is not releasing the name of the inmate.
NDCS says that the man was sentenced on a charge of attempted first-degree sexual assault on a child out of Douglas County.
The release states that the exact cause of death has not been determined.
Authorities say say that this case, like other cases where an inmate dies in the custody of NDCS, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
