LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Police Department is investigating the homicide death of a 28-year-old male in an apartment. 

Police say that a 23-year-old man is in custody for second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. They say there is no on-going threat to the public. 

Early Sunday morning, the police received a call reporting a shooting in an apartment in the 300 block of North 44th. 

Police say when officers got there a male, inside the apartment, was suffering from a apparent gunshot wounds.  Even though the man received medical assistance quickly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

LPD say investigators are interviewing a witness who had been with both of the parties at the time of the incident. They say that Crime Scene Investigators will be at the scene throughout the day collecting physical evidence. 

The next-of-kin for the man who died has been notified. More information on the case will be released at the regular press briefing scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th. If anyone has any information on the incident, authorities ask that you contact Lincoln Police Department or Crimestoppers.
