Two face felony charges after assault in Sidney's Legion Park
SIDNEY, NE — Two people from Sidney are set to be arraigned in district court this week after a reported assault landed one person in the hospital.
According to court records, Jamie and Jessey Lohman both face felony charges related to an assault reported earlier this month.
Court documents say a group of people were in Legion Park the night of August 1. Multiple people told police Jamie showed up asking where her kids were.
A short time later, Jessey and Steven Lohman, identified in court records as Jamie's kids, arrived in the park.
According to witness statements, Jessey and Steven said they were there to fight one of the people in the park. This person, known as C.C.K. in court documents, told police he did not want to fight.
Multiple witnesses told police Jamie encouraged the fight by saying things like, "are we getting this fight over or what?" and "this is boring" when C.C.K. said he did not want to fight, according to court records.
Court records indicate tensions rose until two people started fighting. Multiple people told authorities they then saw Jessey pull a piece of metal from his sleeve and hit C.C.K. repeatedly with it.
Court records say the Lohmans left the area after the assault. C.C.K was eventually taken to Sidney Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities say C.C.K had lacerations on the left side of his head and left elbow. He also suffered bruising and swelling in areas.
After conducting their investigation, Sidney police arrested Jamie and Jessey on August 12.
Jessey faces charges of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and second-degree assault. Jamie is charged with felony child abuse.
Court records indicate both will be arraigned on Wednesday, September 1.
Sept. 27 UPDATE: Jessey Lohman, one of the two charged after the incident, is 17-years-old, News Channel Nebraska made the decision to include his name as he is being tried as an adult. This was upheld in a late September court hearing.
