Knox County barn celebrates faith, lost loved one
CENTER -- 'God's Country' is what Brandon Gerdes called the beautiful hunting grounds of Center, Nebraska.
After he died in a car accident at age 21, his parents bought hunting grounds with an old barn on it. They renovated the barn, now called 'God's Country,' where they host monthly Christian concerts.
"God wants this barn," said Lisa Gerdes, owner.
Lisa and Corey Gerdes renovated the barn to have a bridal suite and to be the perfect location for Christian concerts, each having a new theme and speaker.
Vocal teacher and musician Deb Van Metre brings youth to perform at the barn monthly.
"We started this band to get youth involved in singing and praising God because it's another form of prayer," said Van Metre.
"It's definitely a good way to express our faith," said Kristen Curtis, a singer in "The Answer" band.
"Everyone loves music!" Brenna Fanta chimed in.
Their concerts are growing since they started in June to around 200 per event, bigger each time.
The Gerdes family said it's all part of God's plan.
"I have no doubt that He wants this barn," said Lisa Gerdes.
God's Country Barn will host a poker run next month and more vendors.
