BEATRICE - A special blood drive is being held for a Beatrice man who passed away from COVID-19.

Last November, Louie Esau passed away, but he donated about 31 gallons of blood before he passes. This was inspired by his wife's need for blood. A two-way blood drive will be held August 24-25 at the Beatrice Community Health Center. On Tuesday the 24th, the drive will take place from noon-6:00 p.m., with Wednesday the 25th's from 7:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage, so donors of any blood type are encouraged to donate.
