Norfolk man arrested for alleged assault stemming from rejection

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Norfolk Police say a man assaulted a woman in her home after she rejected his attempts at a relationship.
On July 22, Norfolk Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 100 block of E Benjamin Avenue where a female caller reported that the man she was acquainted with had just assaulted her.
Police say that the victim told them the suspect was waiting for her in her house when she came home. During the investigation, the officer learned that the suspect had been waiting in the hallway when the victim had arrived home from work.
The police said that the suspect had wanted to be in a relationship with the victim, but she did not and had turned down his previous attempts at a relationship.
When the victim got home, the suspect had pushed her into her apartment and demanded that she give him her phone, which she had refused to do.
Police reports stated that officers could see the victim had an injury above her right eye. The officers checked the area for the suspect, but they were unable to find him.
The victim identified the suspect as 38-year-old Francis Walker of Norfolk.
Police say that while officers were at the apartment, the victim had received a phone call from Walker. The officers were then able to locate Walker at his workplace, where they arrested him for third-degree assault and first degree trespassing.
Walker was arrested and booked into the Norfolk City jail. He was later transported to the Madison County Jail.
