NORFOLK, Neb. -- During the Norfolk City Council meeting, a contract was approved by the city to improve the Transfer Station Site.

The contract was awarded to Perry Reid Construction, a company based out of Lincoln. The contract will pay the company $4,350,000 to improve the roads leading to and inside of the Norfolk Transfer Station Site.

Other improvements will include two new weigh stations and a maintenance building to repair vehicles at the site when needed.

According to Norfolk Public Works Director, Steven Rames, construction will begin later this year; however, larger projects such as the weigh-in stations and maintenance building will take longer to begin.

In order for workers and residents to use the facilities during construction, an alternative route is being looked at. Rames says that a temporary road may be built, but nothing has been decided yet. He says they will come to a decision within six weeks.

While subject to change, the end date for the project is expected to be in the fall of 2022.
