Westco, Gering renew baseball rivalry Tuesday

The Twin City rivalry renewed on Tuesday as Gering and Westco took to the field in Legion baseball action.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Twin City rivalry renewed on Tuesday as Gering and Westco took to the field in Legion baseball action.

The Gering Platte Valley Companies earned a 6-5 win over the Westco Zephyrs in the seniors contest.

Both starting pitchers Riley Schanaman and Hunter McCollum pitched shut-out baseball the first two innings.

Westco though broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd thanks to a three run third inning. Gering closed the gap in the 4th behind a two run 4th inning.

Zephyrs extended the lead behind a two run 5th to make the score 5-2. Gering rallied in the 6th thanks to a three run inning which included a two run RBI hit from Blake Greene.

Gering took the momentum into the 7th and Riley Schanaman put the exclamation point as he hit a solo home run to give Platte Valley Companies their first lead of the contest. Jack Franklin pitched the final two innings to seal the Gering win.

Dalton Weise finished 2 for 3 for Gering while Blake Greene and Adreick Conn both had two RBI. While Porter Robbins and Carter Reisig finished with multiple hits for Westco in the contest.

Gering improves to 21-8 on the season while The Zephyrs fall to 14-20.

The juniors contest saw the Westco Express pick up a 14-5 win over Gering B/C Steel. Gering got on the board first behind a Mason Gaudreault RBI sacrifice fly.

Express answered in the a big way in the bottom of the first scoring nine runs to take the lead at 9-1. They would tack on five more runs in the second to seal the win.

Adan Vargas, Moises Panduro, and Corbin Loutzenhiser all finished with multiple hits in the contest for Westco. Panduro also finished with 4 RBI on the day.
