DeWITT, Ne. - Yet another summer celebration returns to southeast Nebraska.

DeWitt Days is scheduled for July 2-4. The town looks forward to the celebration every year, as it has become a staple for Independence Day weekend. Glen Pieper is the event coordinator, and he’s glad the event is back, as last year, like many summer celebrations, DeWitt Days was a victim to the pandemic.

"Because of the pandemic last year, we weren't able to have it," Pieper said. "It was late planning this year. We weren't able to start planning until March/April."

"It's going to be a big celebration," Pieper said. "Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. we'll start registration for the firecracker run, with the run starting at 7:00 a.m., with a community breakfast. Then we'll have registration for our car shows."

Every parade and summer event has some sort of theme in which it is centered around. The DeWitt Days committee took the opportunity of naming the event to celebrate the return to normalcy. Therefore, the theme is:

"Welcome back! And that's a perfect theme," Pieper said. "We're welcoming everyone back out after last year, it was a hard year for all of us, and we want to welcome everyone back out to DeWitt to come out and have a good time."
