BEATRICE - Another Nebraska lake is being affected by toxic blue-green algae.

The state issued an alert for Big Indian Creek Reservoir in Gage County Thursday.

The state says samples taken earlier this week at the lake were above the health alert threshold of a toxin released by certain strains of blue-green algae.

The alert closes the beaches to swimming. Boating and fishing is allowed, but the public is cautioned against getting exposed to the water.

Big Indian is the second lake this year with a toxic algae alert, joining Willow Creek Lake in northeast Nebraska.
