Diller, NE.- The southeast Nebraska town of Diller is continuing a tradition of over 120 years this weekend. The Diller picnic is one of the towns most celebrated events and, kicks off this Thursday June 17, and goes through Saturday.
Chris Clifford is the event’s chairman.
“It really means a lot to the town," Clifford said. "A lot of the community members and volunteers get together, and help to put this on and bring a few thousand people into town over 3 days.”
The annual event will be held for the 124th time, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced number one-twenty-four to be held 2021.
“We were really disappointed not being able to have it last year. We tried several times throughout the summer, but it just didn’t work," Clifford said. "We’re really excited to have it back this year, it means a lot to the town, everyone looks forward to it.”
Despite its many attractions such as car shows, tractor pulls, and carnivals, the event is more than just summer fun.
"It helps support the town, the businesses, and it just gives people a lot of pride in the town,” Clifford said.
While the town and bush pull grandstands may be quiet now, that won't be the case this Thursday through Saturday, as picnic goers will fill the seats to witness bush pulls, bull riding, and car shows.
