'An incredible act of kindness': Game & Parks rescues phone in water
LOUISVILLE -- One man's exciting tale is splashing out of Platte River State Park -- an act of kindness after he lost his cellphone.
Tyler Hottovy was eagerly waiting for a call while he was on vacation in Louisville.
"So I took it out on the boat with me [...] we got back to the dock and I stood up, and it just whoop plopped right into the water," said Hottovy.
Staff from the park immediately jumped to the rescue, creating a net out of a pole to try to scoop it back up.
Even at night, Hottovy said his apple watch was still receiving texts so he knew his phone was still on and working under water.
But after three days, the family was headed back home without the phone in hand. Even after they left, staff still wanted to find it.
"I said well, I'll go into the water, I grew up on the swim team," said Adam Jones, superintendent of the park. He used his hand to feel around underwater. On the third drive, finally, "I felt it and was like oh no! It's like holy cow. It's like 30 hours submerged underwater and here it is on and it's working and everybody's excited," Jones said.
The team took a selfie, and returned the phone to Tyler, whose family then wrote a thank you letter for them.
"It's just a phone but it was more than that...it's an incredible act of kindness. I intend to hold onto the phone as long as I can," Hottovy said.
