Memorial Day weekend is just a few days away, and with that are services set to honor those who fought and lost their lives in active battle.

Several Nebraska Panhandle towns are putting the final touches on Memorial Day services for Monday, May 31.

Kimball is holding its service on Memorial Day at 10 a.m. at the Kimball Cemetery. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2243 will be in attendance. Guest speaker Tommy Tudor will be at the ceremony as well.

Chappell's Memorial Day service will be held on Monday, May 31 at 9 a.m. at the Chappell Cemetery. Guest speaker Dwight Smith will be doing the presentation.

The Dalton American Legion Post No. 301 is hosting its service on the same day at 10 a.m. at the Dalton Cemetery. State Senator Steve Erdman will be the guest speaker.

Sidney has previously announced its plans for Memorial Day services on Monday, May 31 as well.

Veterans Groups Hosting Area Memorial Day Services

Many veterans organizations in the listening area are holding Memorial Day services in several cemeteries this morning.

Chadron groups are doing it at the Calvary Cemetery at 8:30, at the Greenwood Cemetery at 9:00, and at the Whitney Cemetery at 10:15.

The Crawford American Legion, which put up flags in the City Park honoring fallen members of the military, is holding a ceremony at the Crawford Cemetery at 10:00.

The ceremony in Hay Springs is at 10:30 at the Hay Springs Cemetery while Oelrichs is holding its Memorial Day program at 11:00 at the Hillside Cemetery.

Edgemont’s Memorial Day program is at 10:00 at the city cemetery, but the Edgemont Area Historical Society is hosting a fundraising breakfast from 8-9:30 at the Trails, Trains, and Pioneers Museum.

The Harrison VFW is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 on the Sioux County Courthouse lawn. Attendees are asked to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.
