OMAHA, NE — The Sterling Jets are state champions in Class D girls track.
Sophomore Macy Richardson led the way for Sterling, taking home gold in triple jump, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. She says she tried not to overthink things heading into the day.
“Just come in and compete as hard as I can," Richardson said. "Try and do the best, the coaches are all here for me and so are my teammates. I’m just trying to do something for the community, give back to them.”
As for the most challenging event…
“I was really nervous for the 100 hurdles. Long jump I didn’t do as well as I was hoping to.”
Richardson clocked a time of 15.36 in the 100 hurdles, just in front of Samantha Moore of Mullen’s 15.54.
She says taking home the team title is the ultimate reward.
“It feels so nice (winning the team title)," Richardson said. "The community has done so much for us, I’m so thankful we can bring something back for them.”
Sterling tallied 36 points, Humphrey St. Francis had 34 and Fullerton managed 33 points.
