Ricketts signs two new laws into effect

Two new bills were officially signed into law by Gov. Pete Ricketts this week, including a version of a law he vetoed last year.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Two new bills were officially signed into law by Gov. Pete Ricketts this week, including a version of a law he vetoed last year.

Ricketts shared a social media post of him signing Sen. Julie Slama's bill, LB152, increasing the number and types of fireworks allowable in Nebraska. He made the signing official on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, the governor signed Sen. Terrell McKinney's LB451, designed to prevent hair discrimination in the workplace. Ricketts vetoed a similar proposal put forward by Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh last year.

Ricketts and McKinney worked out key differences on the legislation prior to key votes on the Legislature floor.
