NORFOLK - An employee at a hardware store in northeast Nebraska - running into some car trouble today.

The Ace Hardware employee in Norfolk said she got a surprise call from staff - that her car was burning outside.

Emergency responders pulled into the lot around noon to douse the vehicle. It had caught fire beneath a row of trees.

The front of the vehicle was practically melted, and a patch of grass was scorched.

Fire officials say no one was hurt - though the weather could have made the situation much worse.

"It did extend out into the grass just a little bit, and with the wind blowing today it could have gotten to the trees and kept going," said Norfolk Fire and Rescue Captain Scott Bonsall

"Quick thinking by those guys to put the grass fire out, and then the car. It could have potentially gone on farther than it did."

Officials say investigators are continuing to inspect the vehicle for the cause of the fire.
