But what should you do when a real tornado hits?
- First, head to safety: away from windows, and covered with pillows or blankets
- Keep a charged cellphone on hand to check for warnings and updates
- Keep an emergency kit on hand with flashlights, batteries, bandaids, etc.
- Stay away from windows
If you are driving:
- Pull over to the side of the road, far away from oncoming cars, trees, or electric pole lines
- Duck down
- Cover your head
- Do NOT park under a tunnel
If you are out in the open:
- Find the lowest spot and duck
- Protect your head
- Call 911 for backup if needed
